How it works Our moose tours depart at the scheduled time. It is important that you arrive well in advance because the tours unfortunately cannot wait. Check in at the reception when you arrive. You will then get into the wagons and head out in a group together with Leffe, the Moose Man himself. The tour is outdoors and takes about an hour. Anyone who wants to join the tour is welcome. We have adapted the tours to accommodate children, seniors, and disabled persons. The tours are always conducted in Swedish and English. The history of Gårdsjö Moose Park It all started many years ago when Leffe, who at this time was still a hunter, was asked to take care of a moose calf who had lost its mother in a traffic accident. He took the calf home and cared for it for a week, but it sadly later died, despite all the loving care. But for Leffe, the dream of starting a moose park was born. It took many years and a new woman in his life before Leffe and Ilona were able to open the Gårdsjö Moose Park in 2007, with Gunde and Göta, both born in 2006, as the first residents of the 16-hectare (40-acre) enclosure. The number of visitors has steadily increased, and in 2014, nearly 15,000 visitors came to visit our moose. We now have about a dozen moose in the enclosure.

Included: Moose tours
We conduct moose tours, which we also sometimes call moose safaris. Arrive well in advance (the tour departs on time) and check in at the reception. From there, you’ll get into the wagons and head out in a group together with Leffe, the Moose Man himself. The tour takes about an hour and is outdoors the entire time. The tour is open to everyone – children, elderly, disabled, all are welcome!
You’ll get to learn a lot about moose and how they live, both in the wild and here in the park, and you will have the chance to ask questions during the tour.
The tours are always conducted in Swedish and English if there is a request for this.

Close encounters
You will get really close to the moose. They are used to visitors arriving on the wagons and love to get up close and inspect their guests. Sometimes they come so close that you can touch them. They are large, majestic creatures and it is a special experience to have them so close. There are three important rules to follow on our moose safaris. NEVER get off the wagon. NEVER touch a moose on its rump. NEVER smoke in the wagons. All these rules are for your own safety and the safety of your fellow passengers and the moose.

Times
Our moose tours depart on time. During peak season, we conduct one tour at 11:00 am, daily from Tuesday to Sunday. Even if you have pre-booked online, you need to arrive at least 30 minutes before the tour to keep your reserved spot. If you arrive without booking in advance, it is a good idea to arrive well before the tour to try to secure a place. The tour takes about one hour.
For pre-booked groups, other times can be arranged.

Tractors
The tractors we use for our moose tours are authentic vintage Massey Ferguson “Little Grey Fergies” from the 1950s and 60s. These are genuine, old-fashioned, open-top tractors without cabs. We have three tractors that we use for pulling wagons of guests on the tours, and one standing in the yard for children to play on. Unfortunately, none of the tractors are for sale.

Café
We have a small cozy café with a small selection of refreshments. You can get a hearty moose sausage sandwich, waffles, hot dogs, homemade buns and cakes, and ice cream. There is also coffee, tea, and soft drinks, of course. You can sit inside, or outside if the weather allows.
If you’ve brought along your own picnic, you are welcome to enjoy it in designated areas outside the park. Baby food and special dietary food that we cannot offer may be brought into the park.

Shop
We have a small moose shop next to the reception. Here, you will find all kinds of moose-related things – houseware items, stuffed toy animals, bags, ornaments, keyrings, stickers, etc., as well as a few edible items, such as moose candy and locally produced honey. The shop has something for all tastes and budgets. There are also various actual stuffed animals in the shop to look at, as well as antlers from our moose. They shed a new set every year, you know, so you can follow how they get bigger every year!
Dress according to the weather and leave your nice clothes at home. The moose tour is outdoors and if it rains, you’re going to get wet. Don’t worry – the moose won’t care how you look! You are of course welcome to warm up in our café both before and after the tour.
